Our Why

Vision

City Church Midtown rejoices in and wants to contribute to the renewal of Birmingham. We desire to be agents of the love and power of Jesus Christ in helping people find their calling and purpose, in developing what Martin Luther King, Jr. called the “beloved community,” and in helping renew our city.

Mission

A church in the city for the soul of Birmingham

Values

  • A Meaningful life – helping each of us identify and flourish in our callings and purposes wherever God places us to live, work, and play.

  • A Beloved community – gathering together people of diverse backgrounds in a safe place to help us grow in love and understanding of each other through our unity in Jesus Christ.

  • A Renewed Birmingham – coming alongside and helping those who are reconciling and renewing our city spiritually, socially, and culturally.

Story

We believe God’s story is THE narrative of what was, is, and is to come. God CREATES mankind and everything for glory. Mankind’s FALL from glory results in fractured relationship with God, one another, and our world. So, God becomes a man in Jesus Christ to secure in His life, death, and resurrection REDEMPTION from fracture to glory. This story is still unfolding, because God promises one day to RESTORE all things in heaven and earth. So, Jesus’s church is called to show and tell this story wherever we go – spiritually, socially, and culturally.

Beliefs

City Church Midtown is a small part of Jesus’s church through the ages. We hold to doctrine which the Bible teaches as expressed in the Apostles’ Creed, Nicene Creed, Heidelberg Catechism, and Westminster Confession of Faith. We are a part of the Presbyterian Church in America.
